Rainier to Ruston Relay and Ultra Marathon

Jun 5 , 2010

In a celebration of National Trails Day, runners and walkers will take on the 8th annual Rainier to Ruston Relay and Ultra, down the Foothills Trail from the Carbon River entrance at Mt. Rainier National Park to Puget Sound. Solo walkers and walking teams do the second 27M to Tacoma, running teams do all 50M, and ultras do either 50K or 50M to Tacoma's Ruston Way. The course passes through pristine wilderness and historic communities, following the old Northern Pacific railroad route. At each exchange walkers and runners ring a RR bell before handing off to their teammates. This event benefits the Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition which is dedicated to completing a contiguous, non-motorized, public trail from Mt. Rainier to Tacoma.
