Melanie “Tall Mom” had been an athlete for most of her life, she played basketball for Gonzaga University. After graduation she took a break from sports and settled into life. After having baby boy #2 in 2008 she began running to lose the baby (and other) weight. Her first 5K was the Race for the Cure Seattle in 2008, where she was proud to complete the race without walking. The finish line was amazing, the weight was coming off and it felt good to be a Runner.
It was clear that running was going to be a lifestyle so she began the Tall Mom Blog, tallmomontherun.com. A place to record the journey, race reports, product reviews and to connect with other like-minded people. In 2009 Tall Mom decided to train for her first Half Marathon (Capital City) the training was going so well she signed up for her first Full Marathon (Rock N Roll Seattle). Her competitive side kicked in as her times got faster and faster.
With the goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon, she knew she needed help, that is where the Fleet Feet Marathon training program came in. Following the detailed plan created by Paul Morrison and with the support of new running friends including Janna, Melanie was poised for a great race.
Eugene 2010 was the perfect Marathon, she finished with a 3:37 and a spot in Boston 2011. Today with 6 Full Marathons, 10 Half Marathons and countless smaller races Melanie is learning to enjoy the journey and let her speed-demon competitive side go. Often you can find her on the Foothills trail with her (newly) runner husband pushing their two kids in the double jogger, dimples shining and a wave to the others on the trail.
